His Scent

Every Spring a fragrant white Rhododendron blooms in our garden.  Rhododendrons are not typically fragrant.  This one has a clean, pure, subtle scent that is irresistible and unlike any other.  It is rather mysterious, really, in that it does not smell strongly sweet, but clean and pure and so indescribably good!

Every time I pass by the blooms I put my face in a cluster, close my eyes, and inhale that glorious fragrance.  Every Spring for a number of years that scent has spoken to me of the Lord Jesus Christ.  To me, it is His scent.  I've told Him so, many times.

Surely He does smell lovely!  Think of the amazing scents He has created, and our ability to enjoy them.  His creation of fragrance speaks of Him, the Creator.  His Word reveals how He delights in the scent of His bride, the church, which has taken on His fragrance.  He too, has a fragrance to delight us!  He will fill all our senses in eternity.  His lovely fragrance will surely permeate heaven.

I like to imagine as I am enjoying the Rhododendron blooms in their short season, the heavenly fragrance of heaven.  Will I remember there the mysterious irresistible springtime scent of a delicate Rhododendron flower that burns in the sun and quickly perishes?  Will I whisper again, then, "Lord!  You smell so good!  You are so  pure and clean.  You are irresistible.  I can't get enough of You!"

"All Thy garments are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia...."  Psalm 45:8
