Patience is all about love.
In studying the Word this week I saw that patience is ALL about Love. "Love IS patient" (I Cor. 13) of course, but also there is no patience without love. So if someone is patient toward you, you sense their love; if someone is impatient, they are displaying their lack of love. Since love is the the summary of the Law (Rom. 13:8-11) which is the expression of the righteousness of Christ in us, patience is a virtue we can't afford to neglect; and impatience a sin that we cannot afford to ignore. Impatience is a warning light to check our commitment to the Lord as to the obedience of sacrificial, unconditional LOVE, "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you" (that being on the CROSS). "Unless you take up YOUR cross and follow me (to death to self) you cannot be my disciple." "The love of Christ constrains us..." HE in us is all the potential we need to live supernaturally loving and patient lives, and to find the peace and joy that comes as a result--and from no other source.
Being a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ is a fresh everyday challenge to our default fleshly setting of "the world revolves around ME" and the impatience that is a part of that old nature. There will not be a consistent patient love for anyone else until we are walking by our new patient loving nature, in the Holy Spirit.
