Day 27 Prayer
Prayer is such a broad term. It can range all the way from an attitude of prayer to a deep worship in the spirit. It is communing with God. Sometimes that is through speaking, sometimes through listening in silence, sometimes in weeping and even sometimes in laughter. Effective prayer is happening when one’s heart is consciously in tune with God. Sometimes we communicate with people through a look or expression on one’s face, no words needed. God can direct us with His eye if we get close enough to Him to understand that. I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. (Psalm32:8 KJV)
Prayer includes praising God, giving thanks, making requests, intercession for others, making commitments and dedications and calling on the Lord for salvation. It may consist of one word such as, “Jesus” or a phrase such as “Help me, Lord”, or it can be a very lengthy prayer. It can be conversational, conventional or formal. It can be spoken in any language, whispered or shouted, sung or delivered in a monotone voice.
What limitless variety we have to commune with God! It is as though God so desires to commune with each of us that He more than meets us halfway. However, there are a few requirements that we all must heed. We must pray to the One and only true God: ...Our Father which art in heaven,...(Matthew 6:9b KJV). We must deal with the sin in our lives first because man’s sin and God’s holiness cannot fellowship. If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: (Psalm 66:18 KJV) We must pray in faith if we want answers to our prayers. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. (Mark 11:24 KJV)
When we focus on whom we are really talking to, the God of the universe, of all creation, wisdom and power, the all-knowing, merciful God of love, we will have the proper awe and reverence to approach Him and hallow His name: Hallowed be thy name. (Matthew 6:9c KJV)
How grateful I am that I can communicate with the One who loves me, accepts me, forgives me, understands me and enjoys my company. Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (Revelation 4:11 KJV)
Thank God for the privilege of prayer.
I LOVE THE LORD, FOR HE HEARD MY VOICE; HE HEARD MY CRY FOR MERCY. BECAUSE HE TURNED HIS EAR TO ME, I WILL CALL ON HIM AS LONG AS I LIVE.(Ps. 116:1-2)
