Taken from The Dawning of Wisdom Part 1
The Wise and the Foolish
Day 28
Proverbs 28:
13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
14 Blessed is the man who always fears the LORD, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.
When we sin, we are faced with a choice. We can either confess and renounce our sin or we can hide it. The natural tendency would be to hide it. We don’t want anyone to know about our sin or they might think badly of us. There is a way to deal with our sins and shortcomings that far exceeds the natural way. Those believers who are walking in the fear of the Lord will deal with their sins as God tells us to, and that is to confess them and renounce them. They will get them up and out, rid of them, rather than push them down and in. All sin should be handled in this manner, not just the big major ones. If we truly want to be rid of that shortcoming, that temper, or back-biting, or resentment, whatever it is, it must be confessed as sin and renounced from having any part of you. As we are in the process of getting free from that thing, we must continually confess and renounce it every time it shows up. It is easy to give up or to get lax in the process of getting free of a stronghold, but if we mean business, we must diligently stick with it. The rewards are great. We will find mercy from God. One day we will realize it is no longer there. We will prosper. We will grow in relationship with the Lord. We will be blessed.
Not so with the person who conceals his sin. He will not prosper. As he hides his sin he hardens his heart toward God. That person will fall into trouble.
Wise: confesses and renounces any sin in his life - walks in the fear of the Lord - finds mercy
Foolish: conceals his sin, hardens his heart, does not prosper - falls into trouble
