Proverbs 12

Taken from The Dawning of Wisdom Part 1
Day 12
Proverbs 12:
11  He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment.
13  An evil man is trapped by his sinful talk, but a righteous man escapes trouble.
14  From the fruit of his lips a man is filled with good things as surely as the work of his hands rewards him.
24  Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor.
Two parts of the body are mentioned in verse 14, the lips and the hands.  The lips represent our speech, what we say, and the fruit of our lips is the productivity of our words, or the end result of what we say.  From the time we utter our words to the time the fruit of them is produced, there is a process.  Just as surely as it takes time and a process from the time a seed is planted until it produces a crop, so also, as we plant our words into the spiritual realm, they will ultimately produce a harvest.  What kind of a harvest we get is up to us, whether we are going to be trapped by sinful talk or be filled with good things is our choice.  When we think about this and see the law of sowing and reaping in these verses, we should be motivated to delete from our talk all things that could rob us of a good harvest.  Sometimes as Christians we fail to see the importance of setting a guard at our lips:
“Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.”  (Psalm 141:3)
The best way to get a good harvest is to offer the sacrifice of praise.  “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that confess his name.”  (Hebrews 13:15)
The work of the hands has to do with action.  It is one thing to speak good words, but it is another thing to follow through with action.  Hands that are productive will bring a reward, whether that is hard labor of a job or doing deeds of kindness.
Someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and get the job done will be rewarded, with a sense of accomplishment, if nothing else.
Diligence is a virtue that pays dividends.  Speaking words that are in agreement with God’s words, and  working diligently at what God has given us to do will cause us to be filled with good things and the rewards we desire.
Wise:  has abundance from hard work and wise speech
Foolish:  laziness leads to low paying jobs, evil talk leads to trouble
