Day 5

Once I have accepted Jesus into my life, will God keep me from falling out of love with Him?

Many of us have experienced falling out of love with someone or someone falling out of love with us.  In our “puppy love” days, this was common, but in later years, if the love relationship had grown deep, falling out of love and breaking up was no laughing matter. Someone usually got hurt.  Breaking up a marriage leaves wounded hearts because of the cleaving together that God puts on the marriage relationship. Marriage is a seal of oneness and splitting that oneness has grievous consequences.

God says when we accept Jesus into our lives we become one with Him. But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. (1 Corinthians 6:17)

He also promises that He will never leave us nor forsake us. "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5b)

If a relationship between God and an individual breaks, it is not because God did not stay true, it is because the person walked away from God. It is always sin of one kind or another that causes this to happen. Sin separates us from God. A Christian, whose sins are forgiven, must continue daily to keep sin out of his life, and must certainly confess them to God when he does sin. This keeps the relationship with God intact.

Answer:

God is able to keep us from falling into sin and,  thus, from falling out of our love relationship with Him. To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy-- (Jude 24)

God is able, but to keep us from falling He gives us a responsible part to play. Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.    (Jude 21)

As we keep ourselves in God’s love, He keeps us from falling and our relationship with God keeps on growing.
