Day 5 HE HEALED THE SICK
There are many incidents of Jesus healing the sick recorded in the Bible and we know all that He did while He ministered on earth couldn’t be contained in the Scriptures. Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written. (John 21:25)
We have accounts where there was just one person whom He healed, such as Peter’s mother-in-law, and we have accounts where multitudes came to Him for healing. Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them. (Matthew 4:23-24) There is not one single account where He turned anyone away and said, “I can't heal you” or “I won’t heal you” or “You don’t qualify to be healed.” He never said, “I’m not going to heal you because you need to learn something from this sickness.” No, He healed all who came to Him. He had the power to heal and He was willing to heal them. He was full of mercy and compassion and as He healed the people, they witnessed His power.
Sickness is one of the results of the fall of mankind into sin, but Jesus came to redeem us out of that fall and to make us whole. As we walk in this sin-ladened world, we are constantly fighting against sickness and disease. We have been provided with doctors and medication of all sorts, but we must look to Jesus, our Healer. He is still healing today. Healing is part of the believer’s covenant blessings.
Jesus did not prescribe a formula for all to be healed the same way. With some, He touched them. When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. (Matthew 8:14-15) With some, He simply spoke a word. The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. (v.8) Jesus spoke the word and healed his servant that very hour without even seeing him. With some, He told them that it was their faith that made them well, as with the woman who had an issue of blood and pressed through the crowd to touch the hem of His garment. Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that moment. (9:22) When Jesus saw four men let down their paralytic friend on a mat through the roof to get to Him to be healed, He healed the paralytic because of the faith of the four friends. Jesus had no limits in who was healed or how He healed them. The ultimate healing is when we get to heaven, never to be sick again, but while on earth in these mortal bodies, we will always need Jesus to be our Healer.
Meditate on:
· Jesus not only has the power to heal, He is willing to heal.
· Jesus is the Great Physician, nothing is too difficult for Him to heal.
· Jesus commended people who had faith to be healed.
Jesus knows exactly how to heal each of us.
The people came to Jesus to be healed.
