Part one from "Little Lessons on Love"
Has your love cooled down or grown cold?
There is an old secular song that declared that "...Love is a many splendored thing." How true and exciting that is, or at least could be, but sad to say this in today's world, love often becomes a "many splintered thing." It is so easy to forget what makes love become magnificent, a thing of splendor. This is true not only for romantic love but also love for God, family, friends and others. It is commonplace for a love relationship which led to marriage to end up in divorce. Love of family has lost the significance on a wide scale. Love for our fellowman has paled with the emphasis being on self-love. Self-love in a highly competitive society takes its toll on deep and meaningful relationships.Even love in many hearts has waxed cold toward God in these last days before the return of Christ. Many have fallen away from their association with the body of Christ and even with Christ Himself. Thus, many have lost the zeal for life, living at a surface level in their relationships and living to satisfy their physical and lustful appetites. It has been predicted that this would happen in the last days. 2 Timothy 3 1-5 "But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. Having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
Answer: If your love has grown cold or simply cooled down, now is the time to do something about it. First, be aware that in the end times there will be millions of people living in this loveless condition. They are all around us. The Scripture says to have nothing to do with them. It is so easy to pick up things that you don't really want from people with whom you associate. Get yourself into a church or fellowship that believes in and lives in the power of God. ...."These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.' You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men. (Mark 7: 6b-8). Get your mind and focus off pleasure and empty worldly ways, instead, center it on God and His ways. Dig into His Word and surround yourself with people who love the Lord. Get rid of compromise in your life. Lukewarmness will disappear and you will become a lover of God with satisfying depth in you life and a hope and faith for a magnificent future with God.
