Mason Bee

While photographing Rae Edlin's garden I happened upon a little bee. Rae recently told me she was a Mason Bee. That got me interested so I did a little research. I really did not know there were different bees (bumble or honey, but that was it). What I found got me thinking.

The Mason bee is a content little garden bee. Unlike the Honeybee, the Mason Bee’s only job is to pollinate. She is a hard working bee whose temperate is easy going (not willing to sting like most of her friends).

Imagine for a moment if the mason bee was not content to do her job of just “pollinating”. Perhaps she longs to produce honey or wax. How sad that would be. What if she stopped her job altogether looking for the mere title of “honey bee”? How odd that would look to the other bees as the discontented Mason bee tried to produce honey.

The Mason bee was created for this one purpose. With that purpose she brings glory to her maker. We could be like the Mason bee in this story, jealous of others rather then being content with how we were made. Sometimes we are in a season where doing “one thing” is all we can do (being a mom, caring for a sick parent or providing for your family). Doing whatever that one thing is, and doing it well brings glory to God.

Colossians 3:17 “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

1 Corinthians 10:31 “Whatever you do, do all for the glory of God”

Ecclesiastes 9:10 “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might;”

Romans 12:11 “Not lagging in diligence, fervent in Spirit, serving the LORD”

Colossians 3:23 “ And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and NOT to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”

So when our hearts and eyes are fixed on serving God, it can turn what appears to be a mundane task into a glorious one. Being diligent, not lagging & working with ALL our hearts, all for the benefit of One. Oh how satisfied we would be if we get our eyes off men and onto God.

Aren’t you glad the Mason Bee is satisfied? She is a beautiful picture of a content servant of the King!
